Constructed in the mid-5th century BC during the age of Pericles, it was designed by the architects Iktinos and Kallikratis, while its sculptural decoration was overseen by the renowned artist Phidias. The temple is admired for its perfect proportions, refined construction techniques, and subtle optical refinements, which together make it one of the greatest masterpieces of ancient Greek architecture and a timeless symbol of Western civilization.
